Sarah Howells currently presents the Mornings radio program on ABC Sunshine Coast from 8.30am - 11am weekdays. She connects community, melding talkback with her expert knowledge of music and journalism, sharing powerful and important stories across each morning, with a strong focus on highlighting local music.
She is the Vice Chair and Secretary of the Sunshine Coast Music Industry Collective (SCMIC), an industry body focused on advocating for and celebrating the local music industry. SCMIC created its first Sunshine Coast Music Awards in 2025, which Sarah was instrumental in.
You probably best know Sarah from her twelve years broadcasting on Australia's national youth broadcaster triple j. She hosted and produced Weekend Lunch and Roots N All, and was the voice of the roots music scene in Australia for almost a decade on triple j. The program showcased the best blues, reggae, soul, funk, alt-country and world music from Australia and internationally.
She went on to present Stir It Up on Double J, a national radio program which delved deep into blues, folk, reggae and roots music, telling the stories behind the songs.
Music is a passion of Sarah's, and she has been showcasing this in her DJ sets for well over a decade. She has DJed major festivals in Australia such as Falls Festival, Nannup Festival, and Brisbane's Riverstage, playing everything from dance music to roots music and beyond.
Sarah has MCed events from music festivals to corporate events, including being a regular Master of Ceremonies for WOMADelaide for well over a decade, launching the Brisbane City Council's G20 Project, and hosting the Summer of Soul Festival in Gippsland.
Sarah worked with Woodford Folk Festival as their publicist in 2018, which is one of the largest music and arts festivals in Australia.
Sarah has written feature articles for Rhythms magazine, Australia's largest roots music magazine, written for The Australian, and has contributed to triple j magazine and Double J online.
Sarah follows her passions and loves to spread the good music far and wide.
